Issues: Education

Lisa believes that everyone has a right to a quality public education, 21st century skills, and affordable postsecondary education.
As a student, mother, and wife, Lisa knows first-hand that education is the basic cornerstone of economic opportunity and stability. Indiana cannot be competitive unless we can ensure that the next generation is equipped with the tools to take on an increasingly complex, interconnected and globalized economy. The quality of our schools has been chipped away from a decade-long pattern of defunding our public schools, privatization through charters, and excessive standardized testing.

Lisa supports a plan to rebuild and revamp an Indiana public school system that puts our children before politics and empowers teachers to make the best decisions for our students. If elected, Lisa will support:

Ensuring our public schools have the funding they need to be successful, helping to reduce class sizes and provide a cost-of-living increase to public school teachers
Increasing funding for special education classes and aides to provide adequate accommodations for the most vulnerable students
Providing childcare and pre-K program options
Refocusing curricula and standards on practical skills and critical thinking, not standardized testing
Providing affordable tuition and greater public scholarship options for community college and four-year state colleges
Having workforce development give more say to the needs of Hoosier manufacturing companies, providing training to Hoosier workers to meet the needs of Indiana businesses, particularly high technology manufacturing.
